“/>It is to be hoped that the grassroots season can be completed.
The grassroots season has been extended to the end of June, it was announced.
With games resuming next month, it is to be hoped that there will now be enough time for the leagues to be completed.
The extension applies to senior leagues below step six of the National League system and to all junior leagues.
“We welcome the UK government’s update (on Monday) on the Covid-19 roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions, which means we can look forward to the safe return of grassroots football for adults and children from March 29th,” said it in a statement from the FA.
“We can also confirm that the 2020-21 base season has been extended to the end of June to give the leagues additional flexibility and time to end their games this season if they so choose.”
The extension does not apply to steps three to six of the National League system, the regional NLS feeder leagues and the women’s football pyramid from level three.
“The process of determining the preferred route for these competitions is ongoing,” added the FA.
