CAROLINE WEIR and Steph Houghton both scored two goals when Manchester City scored a pivotal 7-1 win in the Women’s Super League at Brighton.

Weir opened the gate for the guests with two goals in quick succession in the 12th and 16th minutes. Captain Houghton scored the 3-0 four minutes before the break.

Gareth Taylor’s team kept up the pace in the second half. Ellen White scored 4-0 in the 58th minute before Houghton, who appeared in the league for the 150th time, sealed her brace three minutes later.

Irish international Rianna Jarrett scored a comforting goal for Brighton in the 69th minute before Chloe Kelly restored City to five goals with 17 minutes remaining.

Canadian Janine Beckie came off the bench in the 77th minute to complete the goal.
