Chelsea will be connected again with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland before the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are willing to spend big bucks to land Haaland this summer despite spending more than £ 200m on Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech last summer.

The 20-year-old has been linked to a number of European superclubs over the past 12 months. The Norweigan striker has scored 35 goals in just 35 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund since joining Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.His reputation as one of the most talented attackers in world football.

The CIES Football Observatory rates Haaland at a staggering value of between 150 and 200 million euros. Only Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has more value than the 20-year-old prodigy so the Blues are likely to have to pay a substantial price to sign him this summer.

What if Chelsea managed to sign Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window before next season? And what impact could it have on the club?

To have some fun and predict the future, we used Football Manager 2021 to see what could happen.

We ‘signed’ Erling Haaland for Chelsea in summer 2021

To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2021 editor to get Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to move to Chelsea in the summer 2021 transfer window. FM21 was used for our simulation.

The Football Manager database currently contains information on more than 800,000 individuals and 45,000 active clubs. The data comes from their international local scouting network, which includes around 1,000 people. Among them are some who are professionally involved in football, including boy scouts and coaches.

In addition, each annual iteration of Football Manager has built-in algorithms that look for outliers and data discrepancies. Data accuracy is also ensured by input from contributors who are active in the professional game (players, agents, etc.) and who regularly provide feedback.

This is what Erling Haaland’s profile on Football Manager 2021 will look like in the game from July 2021.

We then simulated the entire 2021/22 season in-game to see what impact Haaland could have on Stamford Bridge in the next season. This is what happened!

Erling Haaland’s 2021/22 season for Chelsea

Haaland was the club’s first choice striker throughout the 2021-22 season. Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham had to play a substitute role for the blues, such was the quality of the Norwegian striker.

And luckily for Lampard, Haaland did a great job for the blues. He has scored 26 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions and made five assists throughout the campaign.

He finished the season as the club’s top scorer, despite being out for a month and a half due to injury, and scored ten more goals than second top scorer Kai Havertz.

But as you can see from the screenshot above, the Blues were an attacking team with a clear goal in 2021/22. Haaland helped transform Lampard’s team into one of the best attack outfits in Europe.

Here are the Chelsea players with the highest stats on goal participation throughout the campaign.

The above players contributed 165 goals in all competitions, an incredible attack performance, with Havertz contributing 35, most of the roster just above Haaland (31).

Haaland also secured the Premier League Golden Boot, beating Mohamed Salah and Leicester City striker Odsonne Edouard. Neither player could score his 20 goals in 38 games.

The 20-year-old also won the Premier League Player of the Season with a higher average game rating than any other player. Pretty much the debut season!

With Haaland’s goals and Lampard’s attacking style of play, Chelsea were able to score more goals in our simulation than any other team in the Premier League. The Blues scored 83 goals in 38 games, averaging 2.18 per game.

Chelsea’s top team at the end of the 2021/22 season were as follows: Kepa Arrizabalaga; James, Tomori, Rüdiger, Chilwell; Kovacic, Havertz; Ziyech, Mount, Pulisic; Haaland.

Aside from Kepa’s involvement, the team looks about what you would expect. The Spaniard has an excellent season for the club after a difficult 2020/21 season.

How did Chelsea fare across all competitions in our simulated 2021/22 season?

The Blues were bad in the Champions League, dying in the group stage but winning the Europa League with Haaland scoring a goal in the final against AS Roma.

So what about the Premier League?

This is what the final PL table 2021/22 looked like in our simulation.

Chelsea pushed Liverpool all the way in the 2021/22 title race, with the Blues scoring more goals but the Reds conceding fewer goals, as the two sides were separated by a single point at the end of the season and Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowly closed on Chelsea .

If Lampard’s side had won one more point, they would have won the Premier League title because of the goal difference.

Man City finished third, Tottenham fourth and Arsenal eighth.

The football manager predicts that Erling Haaland’s arrival at Chelsea could turn them into real title contenders in the 2021-22 season, with the Blues becoming one of the best offensive teams in Europe.

As always, these simulations are just one way of predicting a player’s potential impact, but it’s interesting to see how Erling Haaland could fare for Chelsea if the striker signs for Lampard’s side this summer!
