David Alaba was expected to join Real Madrid this summer after rumors of a pre-contract agreement surfaced. However, recent reports appear to have debunked this theory.

According to Sport BILD (via Inside Futbol), the long-time defender of Bayern Munich has not yet completed a summer transfer and will still be available as a free agent at the end of the season. The report also claims that Alaba is considering moving to the Premier League as it can and will likely get a better deal there than in Spain.

Real Madrid’s offer reportedly came in at around € 11m, while Manchester City are said to have presented a € 14m per season salary package, according to Diario AS. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real, Barcelona’s domestic rivals, are also said to have an interest, although given the financial situation it is unlikely that the Blaugrana will be able to meet such salary requirements.

In theory, this news bodes well for Chelsea’s chances of signing the 28-year-old, but most likely it’s just a ploy from his agent Pini Zahavi to get a bigger, better offer from Alaba’s dream club Real Madrid.
