Arsenal suffered another transfer blow this summer when they missed Ryan Bertrand’s signature for Leicester City.

The 31-year-old, who previously belonged to Chelsea, is leaving Southampton as a free agent after failing to strike a new deal with them.

He was targeted by the Gunners to try and hide Kieran Tierney after they allowed Sead Kolasinac to leave them.

The transfer couldn’t happen in the January transfer window, however, and they hoped to convince him to join them as a free agent this summer.

They always faced competition from Leicester City, who were also looking for a new left-back.

The Foxes are run by Brendan Rodgers, who coached Bertrand while on the Chelsea youth team.

Football Insider reports that Leicester City won the race to be signed.

According to the report, he has agreed on a two-year contract and would be reunited with Rodgers.

Arsenal and the Foxes were also keen to sign Zambian striker Patson Daka and they beat Mikel Arteta’s club to his signature.

Arsenal fans are still waiting to see who will be their club’s first summer signing.

They have been linked to a wide variety of players and it seems that Ben White might join them soon.
