BBC Sports presenter Kelly Somers was instructed to stick to women’s football by an Instagram troll who has a daughter of her own.
Somers described the abuse online, and also revealed that the father had suggested her and other coworkers achieve the bottom line.

The talented reporter Somers used her experience to shed light on the problem on International Women’s Day (IWD).
She tweeted to her 30,000 followers: “I received a message on Saturday from a man on Instagram telling me and other women to get out of the bottom line and stick with women’s football.
“I searched the man, he has a daughter. Is he sending her the same message? That she can only do certain jobs?
“The reason I’m telling this isn’t out of sympathy (I’m sorry for him), but because news on IWD is fabulous, but not enough.
“Everyone should think about their attitudes towards women and their work every day. How would he feel if his daughter got the message he sent ?!
“Also, I should add that these are not just men. SO many amazing men and fathers who do just the opposite and show their daughters that they can do what they want.
“I may not have been lucky enough to have mine around, but a lot are out there shattering paternity.”
The post received over 1,000 likes and luckily the fans rushed to support Somers and judge the father.

Somers added, “More on the positive side (sorry mr Instagram man) I’m so happy that I was only raised by my mom. Brought to soccer by my mom. Encouraged by my mom to work in soccer.
“I’ve seen the obstacles women can face, but also that they are there to be dismantled.
“Thank you mom for making me realize how important it is to have strong women around you.”
Aaron jumped in her defense, writing, “Kelly – you absolutely managed to get the bottom line, soccer focus, etc, and I absolutely love watching your interviews.
“You clearly have no idea what the hell they’re talking about – you did it.
“Some great women experts in sports – Alex Scott comes to mind right away.”
Amar tweeted, “This is not a man, this is a sucker.”
And Richie said, “It’s such a shame. You do a fantastic job and you are very passionate about football and of course the minor leagues, which is great.
“I can say how much you enjoy being an expert and interviewing the top players too.”

I saw your potential a few years ago when you hosted @ WestHam games before the game and at halftime at the #LondonStadium Priot … so pleased you have done so well since then. You would be more than welcome in East London.

You’re an excellent moderator. Unfortunately, the chain is never broken until someone intelligent breaks the chain. Much racial hatred and sexism come from a lack of education. He probably doesn’t realize that his mother was actually female too. Ignore the dinosaurs!
