Chelsea tie against Tottenham
In the second game of the Mind Series tournament in the preseason, Chelsea and Tottenham faced each other at Stamford Bridge.
Called a strong side, Chelsea took an early lead with a second-minute goal from Hakim Ziyech and dominated the first half despite being unable to contribute to the result.
Ziyech doubled Chelsea’s lead early in the second half before goals from Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwjin ensured the tie ended.

Tottenham host Arsenal in the final game of the mini-tournament on Sunday.
The transfer problem
When asked about Ross Barkley’s absence after the game, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel replied that “we have 42 players in the building” suggesting the English midfielder was simply a victim of the non-selection.

The rules of the Premier League stipulate that a maximum of 25 players can be registered for the season, provided that the domestic quota is met, but players under 21 do not need to be registered.
This means Chelsea are 17 players over the limit, even ahead of potential new signings from Romelu Lukaku and Jules Kounde. With players like Ross Barkley, Davide Zappacosta and Timeoue Bakayoko all still at the club, Chelsea are a clear example of the problems English clubs are facing in the market this summer.
They are by no means alone either. Arsenal have struggled to move the likes of Hector Bellerin, Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette while Serge Aurier and Harry Winks stay on Tottenham’s books.
It’s not that the clubs don’t want to sell, but selling abroad has become increasingly difficult. The teams in Ligue 1 have financial problems, paralyzed by the double blow of a failed TV rights deal and the coronavirus pandemic.
Over to Spain, and both Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in significant financial arrears, while smaller clubs have been deprived of ticket revenue for most of 14 months and are unwilling to make large expenditures.
In Italy the story is similar, with Inter’s financial troubles being well documented and leading to the sale of Achraf Hakimi and possibly one of Romelu Lukaku’s or Lautaro Martinez’s. Germany has not remained untouched either: only three clubs have recorded losses of more than £ 10 million on the transfer market so far this summer, compared to eight clubs two years ago.

As always, Premier League clubs have a lot of buying power. This is thanks to the lucrative TV and sponsorship deals, which usually overshadow other European leagues.
The consequence of this is the possibility of offering excessive transfer fees for players, which has led to players like Jadon Sancho moving to England this summer.
However, the same clubs are struggling to fire their fringe players. Where there used to be a lucrative market in Europe (see for example the career of Alvaro Morata), there are suddenly hardly any buyers for players and even less at the prices demanded by clubs.
Because of this, players like Bakayoko, Bellerin and Aurier are all still with their respective clubs, creating a significant traffic jam in the transfer market as the Premier League clubs cannot do any significant business.
If the time passes by the end of the time window, significant compromises could be required on the English side to move their deadwood and continue their transfer plans.
