It has covered 22 Champions League finals, 12 major international summer tournaments and more than 130 England internationals.
So who better to answer the question on a nation’s lips than Clive Tyldesley, a source of football knowledge?

Clive, can Scotland win the European Championship?
The 66-year-old Englishman, whose wife is from Barnton in Edinburgh, laughs out loud before regaining his composure and thinking about our national team’s chances at the first major tournament in 23 years.

UEFA Euro 2020 TV schedule: when is each game, kick-off times and how to watch it
“One thing about football televised commentary is that they no longer pay us to get the result right before the game,” he says.
“On the other hand, if we get the score wrong, they fire us – so I don’t make predictions. I’ve seen far too many soccer games to ever stick my neck out and predict the outcome of a game. “

After a quick nudge, Tyldesley finally answers the question. “Can Scotland win? Will Scotland win? Both yes and no.
“I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing Scottish football and working for Rangers TV over the past nine months,” he says.
“So I saw the entire team in the Scottish Premiership. I know the players well.
“What I would say about both Scotland and Wales is that team spirit will be key. The teamwork and the feeling of togetherness of both teams will make a big difference. I think that will be particularly important at this tournament.
“If [Scotland manager] Steve Clarke can nurture the same spirit Wales had five years ago, they might do well. “
Tyldesley isn’t here to discuss Scotland’s prospects at the Euro – he has partnered with Toshiba TV to help Scotland, England and Wales fans resolve football disputes and refresh their football knowledge with the help of Amazon’s Alexa.
During Euro 2020, which finally starts in Rome on Friday, fans of the home countries can ask Alexa questions like: “How does Scotland stand against England?” And ‘Alexa, who is Scotland’s best player of all time?’
Instead of Alexa’s gentle tones, it will be commentary legend Tyldesley who will respond.
There are a total of 25 utterances from Tyldesley, which means fans can ask about specific games, as well as player facts and stats, this summer.
After the year we’ve had, Tyldesley thinks the Euros are the perfect tonic for months of lockdown.
“There is still some uncertainty about what the next few weeks and months will have in store for us in terms of limitations and our ability to interact with others, but what we have missed most is probably being with friends and family,” he says. “You know, just the firm company.
“Football missed that badly. It’s a very collaborative experience – whether you’re part of a team in an elite locker room or a fan with a few friends in the pub. You know, just enjoy the banter, the disagreement.
“Hopefully we’ll get out now and the timing of the Euros, an event that brings people together, is absolutely perfect.”
The Alexa Knows The Score experience is available on Amazon Alexa devices, including Toshiba Alexa-enabled TVs.
