Transfer News: Newcastle are fighting to sign Chelsea lender Ross Barkley

Newcastle are looking to sign Chelsea lender Ross Barkley, according to Chronicle Live news. The English midfielder is currently on loan with Aston Villa and is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of the season.

Barkley joined Chelsea from his youth club Everton in January 2018. Although the England international gave some insight into his innate abilities, he was unable to secure a spot on Stamford Bridge. After Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz arrived last summer, Barkley tried to loan the club out to play regularly.

Barkley had an overwhelming season at the mansion

To that end, he secured a loan move to Aston Villa. Barkley got off to a good start at Villa Park and played a key role in her strong start to the campaign. Over the course of the season, however, his form has deteriorated significantly, with intermittent injury problems making the situation worse.

The Englishman hasn’t started a single game since February despite an injury to Jack Grealish. At the same time, manager Dean Smith ruled out a permanent change for the player. Shortly before the end of the season, Barkley will soon be back at Chelsea where his chances are unlikely to improve much. In the midst of this limbo, Newcastle could offer him an escape route.

The Magpies have been interested in the former Everton man for some time and wanted to loan him out with Ruben Loftus-Cheek this season. However, when finances were tight, they had to do without both. However, it has been reported that the club has re-entered the framework for a permanent or loan deal for Barkley.
