DAVID LUIZ has had no shortage of offers after leaving Arsenal this summer.

The 34-year-old was wanted across Europe, with Real Madrid and a number of Premier League teams vying for his signature, claims Football Espana.

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who briefly worked with the Brazilian when he was Chelsea manager, called Luiz personally to convince him to join Los Blancos, Espana reported.

But Ancelotti faced stiff competition from West Ham and Everton, who also inquired about the center-back.

Benfica, Lazio, Marseille and Lille were also interested in giving Luiz a deal.

The sought-after defender ended his Gunners career after a two-year tenure with the club at the end of last season.

Luiz announced that he had decided to part with Mikel Arteta’s side in order to win more trophies before the end of his career, which he did not think was possible at Arsenal.

After his departure, Luiz said: “Now I think that the club has another long-term project.

“They have different ideas. My idea is to win, win, win as soon as possible.”

In the end, Luiz decided to return to his native Brazil and join the Serie A Flamengo master.

Luiz has signed a contract until December 2022 and will wear the number 23 jersey.

He could soon be supported at the club by ex-Barcelona star Dani Alves.

Alves is looking for a new home after his contract in Sao Paulo was canceled a few days ago and Flamengo is keen to give him one, it is said.
