Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new long-term contract in Manchester City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2025.

The Belgium international has set his future for another two years, and sources have told ESPN that it is a priority for City to sort out Raheem Sterling’s future amid Real Madrid’s interest.

“I couldn’t be happier,” said De Bruyne. “I’ve felt at home since joining City in 2015. I love the fans. My family has settled here in Manchester and my own game has done really well.

“This football club is built for success. It gives me everything I need to maximize my performance. Signing this contract was an easy decision. I play the best football of my career and I honestly believe more will come.”

De Bruyne has played more than 250 games for the club since moving from Wolfsburg in 2015. He is well on his way to winning a third Premier League title this season and was the captain of the leg team in the 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League first quarter-finals on Tuesday.

He said his bond with manager Pep Guardiola, who signed a new deal earlier this season, was a major reason for extending his stay at Etihad.

“Pep and I see football the same way,” said De Bruyne. “This relationship with a manager is so important to me because our goals are completely aligned and we want the same things.

“My focus now is on making sure we finish the current campaign successfully. Our results and accomplishments have been excellent so far, but we need to make sure we finish the season with the cutlery we deserve.”

City have already announced that striker Sergio Aguero will leave this summer. Midfielder Fernandinho could follow, his contract expires at the end of the season.
