The FA Cup title holder Leicester City has signed Patson Daka from the Austrian club RB Salzburg, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Zambia striker will join the Foxes on a five-year deal, subject to the Premier League and international clearance.

“I am so excited to join this great, historic club,” Daka said in a Leicester statement. “It was my dream and I’m so happy and looking forward to what’s next.”

Leicester has not disclosed a fee, but UK media reports have valued the deal at around £ 23m (A $ 42.5m).

Daka had a good record at Salzburg with 68 goals in 125 games and also helped them to four championship titles in a row.

As a potential long-term successor to Leicester star Jamie Vardy, he scored 27 goals in just 28 league games last season, making him top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga.

“I’ve followed Leicester since winning the league (the Midlands club won the 2015/16 season),” said Daka.

“I think it’s the perfect place for me because it’s a team fighting for titles. I know it won’t be easy, but I feel ready to take on this new challenge.

“I will do my best for the club every day and I look forward to seeing the Leicester City fans at the stadium soon.”
