The 2020 European Championship begins today.
As the EM group stages are a little more complex than usual, fans may need a wallchart to stay organized and on the ball.
Blackboards are just as important as sticker books and trading cards in international soccer tournaments, and crossing out tournament favorites is almost as exciting as filling them out as your team progresses.
With 24 teams in six different groups (AF), the group stage is not easy. The two best teams in each group qualify for the knockout rounds.
The other four teams in the round of 16 are the teams with the most points in third place. At the Euro 2016, the eventual winner Portugal qualified this way, as they drew in all group matches.
Portugal won the trophy despite having won only one game in 90 minutes throughout the tournament, beating Wales 2-0 in the semi-finals.
England have three group games, the first against Croatia. Gareth Southgate’s side are in Group D but will likely have to do without Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire at the start of the tournament.
The Three Lions’ second game is against Scotland, which is playing in its first international tournament in 23 years. Steve Clarke’s side are hoping to qualify in the top two but will also keep an eye on qualifying for the round of 16 over third place.
Wales starts the campaign against Switzerland on Saturday.
