Sunderland will be delighted with how they fared over the Easter weekend.

With two games in four days it was always a potentially crucial phase in the promotion race, but with tough opponents it had the potential to be a very difficult period for the Black Cats.

Oxford United are on the hunt for a play-off spot and their visit to the Stadium Of Light had the potential to become a banana peel. Lee Johnson’s team prevailed, however, with a 3-1 win.

That led them to clash with runner-up Peterborough United on Monday.

The competition with the Posh looked like a major clash in the automatic promotion race, and so it was important for Sunderland to get a positive result.

Despite failing to win the match, a free kick from Aiden McGeady was enough to result in a 1-1 draw with Darren Ferguson’s side. The Black Cats remained in a strong position with eight games remaining.

One man who was a star during these games was Luke O’Nien, who risked his body in central defense to give the club two good results, and the versatile star couldn’t hide his delight when he went in the social media went.

A good Easter time with 4/6 points?

The judgment

Luke O’Nien has been one of the best in Sunderland this season.

He might not make the headlines, but his accomplishments in defense of the Black Cats have been an integral part of the club’s push toward automatic promotion spots.

If they want to go up, O’Nien certainly deserves great credit.
