Doncaster’s Rob Campbell will be part of a group of players who will hike 92 miles between the county’s soccer teams to raise £ 3,000 for the unit in the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Rob plays for Sands United Doncaster, a team made up of fathers who lost their babies in the hospital.
He said, “There are currently no facilities, but fundraising has started to change that.

The walk takes you to all five South Yorkshire clubs and West Yorkshire venues.
“We’re taking a 92 mile walk to Yorkshire Football Clubs September 1-4, ending in Doncaster at Doncaster Rovers.”
The walk begins Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in Harrogate Town before ending in Leeds United, Bradford City, Huddersfield Town, Barnsley, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United before ending at Doncaster Rovers.
He said, “As a club, we were approached by the midwife of the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to discuss her plans to establish a mourning suite at the DRI for families with baby loss.
“If you are going through this grief right now in DRI, you will be taken to the maternity ward surrounded by childbearing mothers and crying newborns. This is not what grieving parents need to be surrounded by.
“This is of course very important to us and we would like to work closely with the hospital to offer grieving parents a better environment so that they can spend time with their little one.”
