We are almost 3 weeks before the Premier League starts and the teams have been busy making new signings after the end of Euro 2020. So I thought I would give each team a rating for how things are at this point in the summer window.

Arsenal – C

Mikel Arteta’s side didn’t do anything stupid in this window despite the bad season last year and instead removed some players who had to leave, with David Luiz sacked and Mateo Guendouzi loaned to Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Arsenal have also invested in youth, bringing in two players at the age of 21. Now these players are not going to fix holes, but they are certainly good for building a platform for the future.

Her best result so far is Ben White from Brighton, who has successfully replaced the aforementioned Luiz. Didn’t fix a lot but got rid of some bad eggs and brought in solid perspectives. Not good, not bad, C.

Aston Villa – B.

Villa fixed the biggest problem they had, scoring goals when Jack Grealish is not on the pitch. The signing of Emi Buendia is long overdue and exactly what this team needed, Villa also shed a lot of its own weight, removed the aging Ahmed Elmohamady and moved Tom Heaton on.

Bringing Ashley Young on could be a wise commitment, his defensive experience could really help complete this team.

Aston Villa have made solid signings and got rid of a lot of players who just sat around. Hold on to Grealish and that would be an A, but for now we’ll stick with B.

Brentford – C.

Brentford has stuck to his guns and only used players who fit his policies. With players like Kristoffer Ajer and Franck Onyeka, good players who have first-class experience but also fit into Thomas Franck’s system are good for the team.

You didn’t panic, which some newly promoted players do, but losing playoff hero Emiliano Marcondes and not replacing him could be a big blow.

Brentford gets a C, sticks with what they know but not sure it’s enough, well, there’s still time in this window. Another, not good but not bad, C.
