The day of the transfer deadline can be one of the most exciting days on the football calendar.
Clubs manage to strengthen their teams, as the paperwork and business often get on the line.

Ronaldo’s possible move to Manchester City could get on their nerves in this window
Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential move to Manchester City could be completed too late and this is where talkSPORT.com is looking at some of the best summer transfer dates in the Premier League.

Rooney signed for Manchester United on August 31, 2004 for an initial cost of £ 20 million with an additional £ 7 million in contingent payments.
In the end, he played 559 times for the Red Devils, the sixth most of all United players.
Rooney scored a total of 253 goals for the club, which is considered the most goals in the club’s history. He destroyed several goalscoring records in the Premier League and in the club itself.
Chelsea sign Claude Makelele (£ 16m)

Claude Makelele signed for Real Madrid on August 31, 2003 for £ 16m
A big coup in Chelsea’s engagement history landed in the closing hours of the 2003 transfer appointment with the arrival of Makelele.
Zinedine Zidane famously commented on the move: “Why do you have to coat a Bentley with a layer of gold when you’ve already lost the engine?” It made Makelele’s importance for Real Madrid clear
The defensive midfielder made 217 appearances for Chelsea and, after signing, became an integral part of coach Jose Mourinho’s squad, who won consecutive league titles in 2005 and 2006.
Chelsea had a busy summer spending a staggering £ 111m which would be roughly £ 180m to date … but Makelele’s signing has paid off.
Dimitar Berbatov signs with Man United (£ 30.75m)
It appeared that Berbatov moved to Man City at some point, but Sir Alex Ferguson stole a march from his rivals in 2008.
“This is a key signature. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football, ”said Fergie.

“His style and skills will add another dimension to the team and I am sure that he will be a popular player with the fans.”
The boss was right. He became popular with fans, but not only at United, everyone could appreciate the Bulgarian’s style of play.
He played a little over 100 times for United and scored a staggering 48 goals before joining Fulham in 2012.
Hugo Lloris and Clint Dempsey for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is well on the way to making well over 300 appearances for the club.
Spurs signed Lloris and Dempsey on the 2012 deadline, bringing in the French keeper for a total of £ 17m, while the fee for Dempsey’s transfer was reportedly £ 6m.
Spurs had a great transfer window this year, signing Emmanuel Adebayor, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele.
But the fact that Lloris has been such a staple between the sticks for Tottenham for the past nine years speaks volumes to the fact that this is the wire deal.
Dempsey scored 50 goals for Fulham before joining Spurs and became the highest paid American footballer.
Ashley Cole to Chelsea
Often considered the best left-back England has ever seen, Chelsea joined Arsenal’s Cole at the last minute in 2006.
The Blues managed to close the deal in the closing hours of the deadline when they swapped William Gallas and £ 5m to secure the then 25-year-old full-back.

Ashley Cole won everything at Chelsea – including the 2012 Champions League
Over an hour after the deadline, the two clubs issued a joint statement announcing that Cole, who had been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the window, was in fact a Chelsea player.
The defender played more than 200 games for Chelsea and found a pile of trophies in the process, including four FA Cups, a Premier League title, a Football League Cup, a Europa League and a Champions League trophy.
Lucas Moura to Tottenham (£ 23m)

Lucas Moura joined Tottenham on the day of the transfer deadline for a reported £ 23million in the 2018/19 season.
Some Spurs fans might argue that the Brazilian’s hat-trick in the 2019 Champions League semi-finals alone could be worth the money.
The attacking midfielder helped Tottenham make their comeback against Ajax after a 2-0 deficit to a 3-2 away win and then to an overall victory.
Moura has now played for the club over 100 times since Tottenham managed to secure the Brazilian in the last minutes of the window in 2012.
Harry Kane joins Norwich on loan

On the same day, Tottenham made the fall for Lloris and Dempsey, and on August 31, 2012, Kane was loaned to Norwich City.
The Tottenham star may have only played five times for the club as his time on Carrow Road was stunted with an injury, but he said so and his other loans made him who he is today.
Kane told the ITV Football Show, “That was probably the hardest time in my career – I was 19 and thought if I couldn’t play for Norwich or Leicester, even in the championship at the time, how come.” do I go back and play for Tottenham?
“When I went to Norwich when I was 19, it was just about taking another step and proving that I can score in the Premier League.
“But I didn’t really see it as my last chance. Whenever I was loaned out, it was always my thought to come back and play for Spurs. “
Tevez and Mascherano to West Ham United
Somehow, Alan Pardew’s Hammers stunned world football by bringing two of Argentina’s best talent ashore for undisclosed fees.
West Ham United acquired two sizes in the last 24 hours of the transfer window in 2006.
Tevez may have only scored seven times for the Hammers, but those goals alone make this one of the best deadline day deals.
The striker essentially saved West Ham with those seven goals as they all came within the last ten games as the club battled relegation.
The Argentine moved to Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus and scored well over 100 goals for the three giants.
Mascherano only played five times for the Hammers in his only season at Upton Park, as he was often excluded from the starting line-up for Hayden Mullins in midfield.
However, his football legacy was left in Barcelona and Liverpool, making almost 300 appearances for the two clubs where he spent 11 years.
