Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have picked Leeds United hero Lucas Radebe on a list of their top 10 bargain transfers in the Premier League.

The South African joined the Whites from the Kaizer Chiefs in 1994 and moved to Elland Road under the contract to sign Philemon Masinga, but it turned out to be the most valuable asset.

While Masinga only played two years at the club and only made 31 league appearances, Radebe spent a total of nine years in West Yorkshire, where he appeared in over 200 league games, and was the club’s captain during his time at the club.

Radebe would not win any honors while at Leeds but was part of the team that finished fourth in the Premier League from 1998-1999. The following year he finished third and qualified for the Champions League, where they reached the semifinals of the competition.

Notably, Leeds paid just £ 250,000 for the two players and Radebe became an icon in Leeds’ recent history, earning him a nomination in the list of the top 10 Premier League bargains of the day.

“Didn’t he come as some kind of deal with another player Masinga, he came to Leeds as part of it, maybe even to keep him company, I don’t know, to become like he did. Me knows He’s had a lot of injuries in his career, but it’s incredible what a bargain, “said Shearer.

“He was reliable, fast, he could play, was decent in the air. It’s free, they stole him as part of someone else’s deal. He was excellent.”

“He was quick, he was strong, he was intelligent. £ 250,000, if you talk to Leeds fans they will say he’s the best mid-half they’ve ever had but they haven’t won anything here either, Leeds. He might have been higher in terms of bargains, but he didn’t win anything, “added Richards.
