Philippe Coutinho is the subject of reconnection with Leicester City, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian international was the subject of media speculation last summer linking him to the Foxes, Arsenal and Tottenham but stayed at Nou Camp.

The 28-year-old playmaker played under Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers in Liverpool, who sold him to Barcelona in January 2018 in a massive £ 142m deal.

His move to Spain did not go entirely according to plan and Coutinho was loaned to FC Bayern Munich last season.

The Bavarians have decided not to make the loan permanent due to the reported purchase price of around £ 104 million.

He was then brought back into the squad at Barcelona under new coach Ronald Koeman, but has not played this year due to injury.

It is now reported that Barca could sell him in the summer transfer window for a reduced transfer fee of € 20m.

And a move back to England seems like a good option for the player, as the Spanish outlet Sport.es reports:

“That’s what Philipe Coutinho thinks, whose future lies in England again.

“The Barcelona player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has been negotiating over the past few weeks with any Premier League team that has the potential to complete a transfer, loan or loan with an option to buy.

“Every possibility was heard because FC Barcelona did not have him for the next season after being loaned to Bayern.”

Claiming Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea ruled out a move for him, the report added: “Some clubs have refused to tackle Coutinho’s hiring like United, City and even Chelsea,” but other clubs say for the player “Left the door open”.

“This is the case with Tottenham and Leicester, the two teams that kept the door open for Coutinho.

“Both have finally qualified for the Europa League and already know what their reality is and whether they can go for Coutinho.

“From now on the moment of truth begins. The moment when you need to determine your future. He has three options on the table: Arsenal, Leicester and Tottenham.

Coutinho’s agent Kai Joorabchian recently said: “We are looking to see if there is an opportunity at the Premier, where he has already been successful.”

According to Sport.es, the transfer would cost around € 20m for one season, while the player’s salary is said to be around € 10m (£ 8.5m).

Regarding all the options he has on the table, the report concludes: “Coutinho faces a pay cut, a negotiation that is not easily predictable.”

Rodgers was asked about Coutinho last summer when the price was apparently much higher.

“I’ve seen a lot of speculation about the young Phil,” said the Leicester boss.

“Philippe is a wonderful player, a brilliant talent, but he would be someone well outside our price range.”

Whether recent developments have changed Rodgers and the way the club thinks remains to be seen.
