It was sad that Joel Matip was out of the running in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Tottenham.

Matip, who is racing for space on a treatment table that is already occupied by Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, appears to have suffered a ligament damage to his ankle. Jürgen Klopp confirms that he is prepared for another line.

Fabinho is also affected, which is why Nat Phillips started at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As much as Klopp can remedy the situation by moving to Jordan Henderson in the central defender, he remembers the comment that Jose Mourinho made about his own injury crisis last season.

“It’s like when you have to pull up a blanket and your feet are left off.”

It’s not that Klopp didn’t ask for reinforcements – he did it only to find out that the funds simply weren’t available.

Perversely, this win over Spurs, which catapulted the champions back into the title race after five league games without a win, may have convinced the board that the campaign is worth saving.

As a result, The Athletic reports that three potential goals could be achieved, starting with an update on West Ham’s Issa Diop.

Issa Diop

It is said that Liverpool took an approach to Diop as they hope he will fall out of favor under David Moyes. While he’s not the strongest in possession, the biggest question mark is how a deal would actually work.

Liverpool would be reluctant to pay £ 20m for him but West Ham would like to put a purchase obligation on a loan deal.

Shkodan Mustafi

The report notes Mustafi’s “reduced ability to hold the ball” – that can be said again. In all seriousness there is a method for going mad in this one. The German international’s high success rate in aerial battles suggests that he could recreate one of Van Dijk’s key traits.

Unfortunately, Liverpool need someone to come into the game – but Mustafi has only had 45 minutes of Premier League action this season.

Bremer track

The report says that Gleison Bremer was “closely followed” by Liverpool.

The Turin defender can play on either side of a center-back pairing. That versatility could be crucial given the multitude of problems Klopp faced on both fronts.

One option that is not considered viable is Lilles Sven Botman, which the Reds are not interested in.

It seems that Liverpool are preparing to at least close the rifts so all eyes are on Melwood on Deadline Day.
