Bayern Munich have reiterated their interest in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who is also wanted by Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
The French international defender will be one of the hottest properties on the transfer market by the end of the season when his € 45m release clause goes into effect.
Widely regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in European football, Upamecano has been followed by several top English clubs.
But Bayern, who will lose defender David Alaba to a free transfer at the end of the season, will be among the rivals fighting for his signature.
“We will of course not only deal with this player, but in principle with all positions in which we want and have to do something,” said Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (via Der Spiegel).
When asked whether an agreement had been reached, he said: “It’s too early for something like that, he’s still a Leipzig player at least until the end of the season. However, it is common knowledge that he has a clause in his contract. “
According to Goal, Upamecano and Leipzig will not make a decision about the youngster’s next step.
While City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool are linked to the French, no team has yet established itself as a front runner.
The defender wants to play Champions League football regularly and become a leader in his new team, having played almost 100 Bundesliga games in Leipzig in the past four years.
