Birmingham City fans have responded on Twitter to news that the club have reportedly “sent an SOS” to former Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Manager Lee Bowyer seeks cover while Neil Etheridge recovers at home after being hospitalized with COVID-19.

According to Sun, the blues allegedly reached out to Bettinelli after the stopper spoke to Nottingham Forest.

Wölfe goalkeeper Matija Šarkić played in goal for Birmingham in Saturday’s 3-0 friendly win against Cheltenham Town.

While the trialist did well, Bettinelli could prove to be a more experienced option for Bowyer’s men.

Here’s how the Bluenoses reacted to the news on Twitter:

@KajeBirmingham: That would be a top new signing.

@Benjfordays: Massive statement if true. The best teams in the league have a number 2 that could easily be number 1 for most other teams.

@Papaulski_CP: Strange …

@ ScottJordan86: buddy, the premier league isn’t ready for us just yet !!!!!

@richiealum: Bettinelli would be great. But where would Big Neil be?

@SeanFuery: Seems a bit much with Etherington and Sarkic *

@ Davrosf1atlee: Good solid encore. We all want Jeacock to be number 2, but the Z-Man should be loaned out to the League 2/1 and play 46 games next season.

It seems the overwhelming opinion of Bettinelli is positive, although Bowyer will be sure to keep his options open as he attempts to cover for Etheridge.

Etheridge is now recovering at home after hospitalized with COVID-19, much to the delight of Bowyer and everyone connected with Birmingham City.
