The Clarets have been disappointingly quiet this month, especially given the arrival of their new owners just before the market opened – but in their defense it wasn’t for lack of trial.

Burnley has been linked to a slew of players this month, including a number of defenders.

However, Ben Davies appears poised to seal a shock train to Liverpool in the coming hours as the Clarets have been pushed back in their initial efforts to sign Stoke City teenager Nathan Collins.

That looks like it might still have legs, with suggestions from Alan Nixon of The Sun that they went back with an improved bid.

Again, the Potters are said to have stood firm, but don’t be surprised if this develops over the course of the day.

Elsewhere, hopes of landing Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny are getting slimmer.

Burnley has been linked to the full-back for most of the month, but new updates from various sources – including the BBC – suggest that the Scottish champions Celtic stole a march in the race to catch him.
