According to expert Robbie Savage, Newcastle United is in a relegation battle.

The former Premier League midfielder also announced that he does not consider Bruce a “great manager” despite the constant defense of his former headlamp.

Speaking to Emma Jones for William Hill, Savage said, “I like to defend all managers.
“I’ve never been a manager, I don’t know how difficult it is to be a manager.
“I don’t know what the hierarchy said to him. I’ve read quotes from Steve Bruce. He said his job is to keep Newcastle in the Premier League – he will do that I think.
“I’m not saying Steve Bruce is a great manager, I’m not. I’m saying Steve Bruce, I believe Newcastle will stay in the Premier League.
“Newcastle United fans will want more than that, I understand. They want to see better style of football, more attacking football, but sometimes it’s very difficult to do.”

“You can see that Brighton are now playing a much better style of football and still facing massive relegation problems.
“Bournemouth, look how they played, now they are in the championship.
“Steve Bruce will keep them in the Premier League but I know Newcastle United fans want more.”
When asked by Jones whether Bruce United had moved United with the 15th club, Savage added: “It’s a very fair debate.
“Your average finishing position, if you’ve been in the Premier League since 1992, is 10th place. I think they are about seven points in 10th place. If Steve Bruce gets 10th this is an average Premier League season for Newcastle United. “
“You are in a relegation battle, I think.”
