More people died of Covid-19 in the neighborhoods around Ibrox and Parkhead stadiums in Glasgow than in almost any other community in Scotland.
The Rangers’ Europa League game against Bayer Leverkusen on March 12, 2020 was the last game played in front of a large audience in Scotland before sporting events were canceled.
More than 47,000 people came together on Ibrox that day – including hundreds of fans from Germany.
A year later, it was found that 38 people in Ibrox and neighboring Cessnock had died in the course of the pandemic, one of the highest fatalities in Scotland in a community of nearly 7,000. Parkhead West and Barrowfield, which also have about 7,000 residents, recorded 37 deaths.
Almost 59,000 fans gathered in Parkhead too
