Cristiano Ronaldo says his relationship with his “father in football” Sir Alex Ferguson was the key factor behind his decision to return to Old Trafford this summer.
The 36-year-old Portuguese star sealed his return to Manchester from Juventus on the day of the transfer deadline.
And Ronaldo says it’s the bonds he made in his first hugely successful appearance at the club that made him sign again.

“As everyone knows since I signed with Manchester [United] At 18, Sir Alex Ferguson was the key, ”said Ronaldo in an official interview. “I remember when we played Manchester at Sporting Lisbon.
To me, Sir Alex Ferguson is like a father in football to me.
He helped me a lot, he taught me a lot of things and in my opinion of course he played a big role because the relationship we had, we stay in touch all the time and he is an amazing person.
“I really like him and he was the most important key for me to be in the position I signed with Manchester United.”
Ronaldo signed a two-year deal with the possibility of a one-year extension at Manchester United and looks forward to speaking more with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to find out how the manager intends to use him on the United squad.
“Well, we talked but of course I’ll have time to talk to him face to face to see what to expect,” said Ronaldo.
“As you know, I played with him at Manchester United for two or three years so I have a good relationship with him but now with a different role, I’m a player and he is a coach.
“But it doesn’t matter, my relationship with him is great and like I said, I’m here in Manchester to help the team get their results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants. So I’m available for everything. “

Ronaldo’s return was hailed as a triumph by the vast majority of Manchester United fans, who celebrated his imminent return by showing banners and singing his name in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And Ronaldo said he was excited about the prospect of playing in front of United fans again.
