Sofia LaSpina etched her name into the history of Long Island.

The 15-year-old wide receiver became the first female soccer player in Long Island history to score a touchdown Saturday night when she received a 4-yard reception in Mepham High School’s 49:21 win over Roslyn.

“I turned around and the ball was right on target and I was in the end zone,” LaSpina told reporters after the game. “It was great. The first one to congratulate me was [halfback] Gift Terra. The boys were all pumped up. “

In the third quarter, LaSpina made her first varsity catch with a 5 yard out and turned it into a 16 yard win. She finished with three receptions for 45 yards.

“We were all very excited because she worked exceptionally hard in training with a great attitude and she just keeps getting better,” said Mepham trainer Anthony Cracco. “It was a really cool moment to be a part of it.”
