The Stoke City fans’ first league game at bet365 Stadium in 17 months will be against Reading.

Stoke welcomes fans back for the first time since March 2020 and the return will feel a lot closer this morning as the games for the new season are released.

Michael O’Neill’s squad begins prep practice at Clayton Wood on Monday and the countdown begins in earnest to August 7th and Stoke’s fourth attempt to exit the championship.

Stoke currently has the worst opening record in English football, without a win on the first day for the past 11 seasons, four draws and seven losses since beating Burnley in 2009.

The first away game will take place on August 14th in Birmingham City and the first weekday game will take place three days later on a long trip to Swansea on Tuesday evening.

A difficult opening month ends at home in Nottingham Forest and away at the newly relegated Fulham.

It’s Barnsley away on Boxing Day – just like in Stoke’s final year of promotion when Liam Lawrence scored a hat trick in the 3-3 draw – and at home against Preston North End on New Years Day.

The last game will take place on Saturday 7 May at home against Coventry City.

Stoke are hoping to confirm the pre-season friendlies soon, with an away game against Crewe on Tuesday, July 20th (7pm) already on the agenda.

The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports today at 3:40 p.m.

The teams will be drawn in the northern and southern sections, with the games to take place in the week from August 9th. The clubs can also mutually agree on an alternative date between July 31st and August 4th.

A total of 35 games will be drawn for the first round, including EFL debutants Sutton United and the newly promoted Hartlepool United.
