The readings are facing an interesting summer transfer window in which the Royals want to expand their squad before the 2021/22 season.

The Berkshire side finished the 2020-21 season in seventh place on the championship table, much to the frustration of the loyal Madejski Stadium, who saw their side finish in the top six for most of the season.

The club has already announced that the players will leave the Madejski Stadium after signing the contract to rebuild before the new season.

A top six placement next season should certainly not be ruled out, as Veljko Paunovic is keen to keep his key players this summer.

Players like Yakou Meite and Michael Olise already piqued the interest of other clubs earlier this year, although it remains to be seen whether formal offers for their services have been submitted by then.

We take a look at the latest transfer news that has been going in and out of Madejski Stadium over the past few weeks.

Defenders targeted by the Royals

Reading is reportedly interested in a deal to sign Deportivo Pasto’s right-back Esneyder Mena this summer, according to Football Insider.

The full-back is reportedly available for a free transfer ahead of the new league season and has been dubbed the “Trent Alexander-Arnold of Colombian football” with his cross and long pass eye-catching.

Tomas Esteves has returned to parent club Porto from his loan deal with Reading, which means they will likely be in the market for a new right-back to challenge Andy Yiadom for his place on the team next season.

The chances that Reading will continue to sign are dwindling

Reading had previously been interested in signing Los Angeles striker Diego Rossi, although a move failed to materialize in the January transfer window.

Rossi has drawn attention to himself with a number of impressive performances for the Americans over the last few seasons and that obviously has not gone unnoticed.

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are reportedly interested (according to The Telegraph) in reaching an agreement on Rossi’s signing this summer, which is likely to be a more tempting offer for Rossi ahead of the new campaign set to begin in August.
