Utton United’s first home game as a Football League club was postponed due to “unexpected challenges” when replacing the artificial turf in the summer.
Sutton’s planned first home game on August 14 against Salford City has been canceled as an away game, while the game against Hartlepool on August 17 has been postponed to September 14. The Football League Club will take place on August 28 against Oldham.
In a statement, the EFL said: “Following adverse weather conditions over the past few weeks, the process of installing a grass pitch on Gander Green Lane to comply with EFL regulations has been delayed, affecting the club’s ability to host its opening games. In doubt.”
EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch said: “While the club faced some unexpected challenges in making the changes necessary to comply with EFL regulations, the league, with the support of Salford and Hartlepool, has agreed with their game plan.
