Daniel James insists that Wales are able to upset Italy at Euro 2020 and win their group.

Wales are close to making it into the tournament’s round of 16 after beating Turkey 2-0 in Baku on Wednesday.

Italy, on the other hand, lead Group A ahead of the game against Wales on Sunday in Rome and have already qualified for the knockout phase after beating Turkey and Switzerland 3-0.

The challenge Wales faces is underscored by the fact that Italy have been unbeaten in 29 games, scoring 59 goals and conceding just three in their last 19 games.

“They are a great team with not too many weaknesses – and they have had two great games,” said James, who are part of a Manchester United side that won a Europa League game when they beat AC Milan at San Siro in March .

“You have players like (Giorgio) Chiellini and (Leonardo) Bonucci, legends of the game who are nearing the end of their careers but are still at the highest level.

“They are the kind of players to look up to, but we believe we can get a result.

“We are very confident and we don’t go into a game for a draw.

“We want to win every game and we firmly believe that we can do it. We showed that at the last European Championship and in our most recent form.”

Wales are in good shape themselves, having lost only once in their last 14 competitive games.

Belgium, the best-placed team in the world, suffered this defeat in a World Cup qualifier in March.

“They know we have threats, I don’t think they see us weaklings,” said James.

“They will do their analysis and be just as ready as we are. They have the home advantage but I don’t think it really matters.

“It was like a home game for Turkey (in Baku) with all of their fans, but it was great to hear that sound again when the fans were back. It was something we all missed as players.”

“We are underdogs, we have nothing to lose if we go there. We fear no one and firmly believe that we can win it.”
