A new era in West Lothian football begins this week as nine clubs make their senior football debuts.

After a mass exodus of Juniors in the summer, a number of local clubs have decided to join the senior football pyramid and their new journey will officially begin when both the East of Scotland Football League and West of Scotland Football League start the 2021-22 season start this weekend.

Harthill Royal has been accepted into the WoSFL and will start her life in the eighth division of Division Four at home against Finnart on Saturday (kick-off at 2 p.m.).

Eight clubs from West Lothian have chosen to join the EoSFL, all of which will play in the eighth level Conference X in the coming season.

There will be two derby games on the opening day of the season, with Fauldhouse United welcoming Stoneyburn at Park View and Livingston United facing Whitburn.

Bathgate Thistle will host Syngenta, while West Calder United and Pumpherston, who face Bo’ness Athletic and Edinburgh College respectively, will be away.

Armadale Thistle will be in action for the first time on Wednesday night, when the era of senior football begins at Volunteer Park with a visit from West Calder United. The clash is one of two weekday derby games that Livingston United will host Bathgate at Station Park on Tuesday.

Stoneyburn boss Steven Sharp says it’s an exciting time for West Lothian football.

He commented, “It’s a new journey and a new challenge for our club and the others in West Lothian.

“There are going to be a lot of derby games this season and with the crowd now being let in again, it’s going to be a really exciting time for all clubs.

“It’s a league full of good teams trying to play football so hopefully it will be a great season.”

Blackburn United, Broxburn Athletic and Linlithgow Rose are also starting their seasons – their fourth in the EoSFL. The trio are all part of the Premier Division.

United, who were on the relegation zone before last season’s break, will travel to the Jeanfield Swifts on Saturday before welcoming Dundonald Bluebell to West Lothian four days later.

The Brox and Linlithgow will both be keeping an eye on the top spot this season.

Chris Townsley’s team will greet Penicuik Athletic on opening day before heading to Dunbar United on Tuesday, while Rose will travel to Crossgate’s Primrose on the weekend before their home game against Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
