Newcastle United have learned when the summer transfer window will open and close following a Premier League announcement.

The Magpies’ top status remains in equilibrium, although Steve Bruce’s team holds a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone with only four games left.

However, if United manage to maintain their place in the Premier League for the fifth straight year, the club is expected to be set for a hectic summer regardless of takeover developments.

Preseason prep and recruitment are underway and now the magpies have received the dates to do business.

The last two years leading up to last summer’s window, which closed in October, had banned Premier League clubs from signing deals at the start of the season.

However, this has been scrapped with clubs reportedly fearful of losing players to overseas transfers without being able to replace them.

A vote was passed last February to return to a window that coincided with major European leagues.

The Covid-19 pandemic has delayed this reintroduction, but now the Premier League has confirmed that the upcoming window will remain open until the end of August.

The statement said: “The Premier League today confirmed the dates for the summer 2021 transfer window.

“The window will open for 12 weeks from June 9th and close on August 31st at 23:00 CET.

“This will be in line with other European leagues.”
