Former Arsenal target William Carvalho could finally be on their way to the Premier League after claims the Portugal international is in surprising talks with newcomer Norwich City.
Carvalho has been playing for Real Betis since July 2018 when he moved from Sporting Lisbon to the La Liga club after joining Portugal at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He played twice in the last European Championships, but was more involved in Portugal’s successes in 2016.
The 29-year-old has not yet started a La Liga game under former Manchester City and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini this season as a transfer from Spain now seems inevitable for the ex-Gunners goal.
And Sky Sports are now reporting that Daniel Farke’s team is looking for a midfield partner for young Scot Billy Gilmour, who will enjoy seeing an experienced player like the 2016 European Championship winner play alongside him and in talks with Carvalho .
Despite these new connections with the Canary Islands, the midfielder has already made his ideal Premier League goal known in the past.
“I prefer not to say it, but there is one club that I have always sympathized with – Arsenal,” he told A Bola in 2015, as quoted by the Daily Express.
“Because of a player I really liked, I’m wearing his number in this case: Thierry Henry, a player I’ve always empathized with.
“Maybe that’s why I’m paying more attention to the Premier League.”
Mikel Arteta’s signing of young starlet Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka, who sign a new deal, has meant that the need for another midfielder is no longer as urgent as it was at the beginning of the window.
Football.london believe Arteta could get at least two more new signings before the end of the transfer season, with a right-back and a striker being the two positions we could see some movement in over the next week.
And while one of them won’t be Carvalho, he could still achieve his dream of playing in the Emirates – albeit for Norwich, if a move is made.
